Cultural Festivals at Cedarcreek and James Foster Highlights
On April 25, SCV Chinese Dance had the unique opportunity to perform at not one, but two elementary school cultural festivals—Cedarcreek Elementary and James Foster Elementary—both hosting their first-ever multicultural celebrations on the same evening. These cultural festivals at Cedarcreek and James Foster allowed us to showcase a full lineup of dances, quick costume changes, and a talented mix of kids and adults; we were proud to bring the richness of Chinese dance to two vibrant school communities.

Kicking Off at Cedarcreek: A Powerful Start
Our evening began at Cedarcreek Elementary School Cultural Festival, where we opened the festival with a bold and energetic Tai Chi Fan performance by ShiLiu, which was a part of the cultural festivals at Cedarcreek and James Foster. Despite battling strong winds that made our silk fans and umbrellas hard to control, the group carried on with grace and power, setting the tone for a memorable evening.
The children’s group followed with three lively numbers:
- 🌼 Fan Dance – A sweet and synchronized piece featuring bright yellow fans.
- 📜 Scroll Dance (Shu Jian Wu) – A refined routine using bamboo scroll props, spanning cultural festivals at Cedarcreek and James Foster, showcasing poise and coordination.
- 🔥 Ne Zha – A playful and exciting routine inspired by the recent hit film Ne Zha 2, full of personality and fun.
The adult performers returned with a vintage-inspired Qipao Model Walk, channeling the flair of classic Hong Kong fashion. That theme continued with a performance of the elegant old-Shanghai favorite “Ye Shanghai”, followed by our signature Year of the Snake Umbrella Dance, which closed out the Cedarcreek performance with swirling movement and classic charm.

On to James Foster: A Full Show Under the Stars
After a quick regroup, we headed across town to perform a 30-minute set at James Foster Elementary, which offered a larger stage and more time to showcase our full range of performances. As part of the cultural festivals at Cedarcreek and James Foster, we reintroduced all of the routines from Cedarcreek and added even more dancers to the mix.
Highlights included:
- 🌟 A Qipao Runway and Dance with six performers bringing timeless style and graceful fanwork to life.
- 🧧 A duet performance of “Lemon Tree” and the colorful “Into the Painting: Jiangnan” fan dance.
- 🎐 A five-member umbrella dance to close out the night, elegantly layered with traditional symbolism and group harmony.

The kids shined again with added cast members, performing their full trio of routines to great applause and proving why the cultural festivals at Cedarcreek and James Foster are such a valuable initiative. Their energy, charm, and strong stage presence earned plenty of smiles from the audience.
Thank You to Our Hosts this Saugus School District Cultural Festival!
We’re grateful to both Festivals at Cedarcreek Elementary and James Foster Elementary for inviting us to take part in their first cultural festivals at Cedarcreek and James Foster. Performing twice in one evening was both a challenge and a thrill—and seeing so many children and families excited to experience Chinese dance made it all worthwhile.
🌬️ Even the wind couldn’t stop us!
